About the Department. The Department of History of Belarus and Political Science disintegrated multiple reorganizations throughout its history. First (in 1934) it was founded as the Department of Social Sciences of Gomel Forestry Institute. Later (in 1937) it was reorganized into Department of Marxism-Leninism to teach History of Communist Party of the Soviet Union (Bolsheviks), Political Economy, and Philosophy of Marxism-Leninism. When our University was transferred to Minsk, the Department was divided into three different Departments: the Department of History of Communist Party of the Soviet Union, the Department of Economic History, and the Department of Scientific Communism (Theory of Socialism). And finally, in 1993, all these Departments were organized into the Department of History of Belarus and Political Science.
Nowadays, the Head of the Department is Mikalai Siamenchyk, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor.
Academic Activities. The Department is not a graduating one. It delivers courses in History of Belarus, History of Great Patriotic War, Tourism History and Geography, Political Science, Pedagogics and Psychology for full-time and part-time students of all faculties of the University. Also the Department delivers course of High School Pedagogics for Masters. All courses are provided with textbooks by the Department staff.
Educative work at the department is also diverse. According to the State Budget Theme “Optimization of Ideological and Pedagogical Work with Students of Non-Linguistic Universities”, the Department aims at educating multiple and creative personality of students, able to appreciate Native Land, its People and Customs for further prosperity of Belarus.
Research. The scientific potential of the Department is high, all teaching staff has scientific degrees. The areas of scientific and research activities implemented by the Department are as follows: ethnologic study of Belarus; peculiarities of State system; political, economic, and cultural problems of Belarus; and etc. Six scientific-research themes are investigated at the Department. Great experience and modern hardware of the Department help teaching staff take part in different international and republican conferences, and recruit students to this activity.
