Chemical Technology of Wood Processing

The graduate program applies advanced materials science and engineering to careers in fields like paper manufacture, wood-based boards manufacture, wood chemistry, hydrolysis and microbiological industries. Wood is one of the world's most important renewable resources. The program stresses conservation while teaching students to combine wood with polymers and plastics to make advanced engineered composites. The field is both an engineering and scientific discipline in which students take classes in chemistry, mathematics, physics, mechanics and chemical processes involved in the manufacture of pulp and paper, etc.

The students are offered the following options within the graduate program: technology of hydrolysis and microbiological production, technology of wallboards and plastics, technology of wood chemistry production, technology of pulp and paper production.

Technology of Pulp-and-Paper Production

Would-be specialists study technologies of manufacture and processing of sulfate and sulfite cellulose, wood mass, paper and cardboard; chemistry of wood and synthetic polymers; complex chemical processing of wood; peculiarities of properties and application of synthetic materials for paper and cardboard manufacture. Students acquire knowledge in the field of pulp-and-paper enterprises design, computer simulation and optimization of chemical-technological processes for cellulose, paper and cardboard manufacture.

Technology of Wood Boards and Plastics”

Students study technologies of manufacturing wood fibres and wood plastic boards, wood composite materials and plastics; chemistry of wood and synthetic polymers; complex chemical processing of wood. The teaching process also deals with analysis of peculiarities of properties and application of synthetic materials for paper and cardboard manufacture. Students acquire knowledge in the field of pulp-and-paper mills design, computer simulation and optimization of chemical-technological processes for wood boards and plastics manufacture.

Technology of Wood Chemistry Production

Students study chemistry of terpenoids; technologies of rosin-terpentine and rosin-extraction productions; pyrogenetic processing of wood; technologies of production of biologically active substances from wood vegetable mass; chemistry of wood and synthetic polymers; complex chemical processing of wood. The teaching process provides information on principles of forest dip cupping and pitch conservation; technologies of processing of sulfate-cellulose manufacture tale oil products. Students acquire knowledge in the field of wood chemistry enterprises design, computer simulation and optimization of chemical-technological processes of wood chemistry industry.

Technology of Hydrolysis and Microbiological Production

Would-be engineers study principles of biochemistry, microbiology and biotechnology; technologies of hydrolytic and enzymatic processing of vegetable raw materials; bioconversion of vegetable raw materials; chemistry of wood and synthetic polymers; complex chemical processing of wood; technologies of processing of sulfite alkalies as well as hydrolysis and microbiological production final products. Students acquire knowledge in the field of hydrolysis and microbiological enterprises design, computer simulation and optimization of chemical-technological processes.
